Helen Armstrong – The Lady Behind the Brand
Queen of clarity, energy compliance & common sense in Queensland

Helen Louise Armstrong is a proud Gamilaroi woman.
Helen lives and works with purpose — honouring connection, collaboration, balance, and authenticity in all she does.
In 1992, at just 17, Helen stepped into the construction industry as the first female labourer and window tinter at G.James Glass and Aluminium. There, she learnt how something as simple and cost-effective as solar control window film — or improved glazing — could significantly enhance natural thermal comfort and reduce energy use. That early experience shaped her purpose: to lead change as a pioneer by delivering practical, accessible energy-saving solutions in both building design and retrofit applications — improving the lives of Queenslanders and lowering their energy bills.
When mandatory energy compliance was applied to all new residential construction under the Building Code in 2003, Helen recognised a growing industry need for clarity and guidance. In response, she founded House of Stars Pty Ltd in 2006. Since then, she has worked closely with industry professionals — builders, designers, architects, and building certifiers — to simplify compliance and champion housing that is affordable, energy-efficient, and sustainable.
From receiving accolades to recognising the efforts of others, Helen’s influence across the building and construction industry is both earned and ongoing.
Her work continues to shape a future where housing is smarter, fairer, and more sustainable — and where every contribution is seen and valued.
